Acre (Akko) Site Review

The two Bahai Gardens in Haifa and Acre have been named today UNESCO World Heritage site.

(1) Haifa Golden Shrine

The following photo shows a view of the Bahai Golden Shrine and Gardens on the slopes of Mount Carmel. The tomb of the Bab, the forerunner of the Baith faith, is located here, after his remains were brought from Persia in 1899. The gardens have been redesigned in recent years, and the site is a charming place to visit.

(2) Bahai Gardens - Acre

The Bahji mansion, north-east of Acre, was a summer house which belonged to a wealthy merchant from Acre and was purchased by the Bahai faith. In this mansion BahaUllah lived until the rest of his life (1879-1892), and his tomb is located here in a house behind the mansion, amidst a beautiful garden, as seen in the photo below. The Old city of Acre is one of the fascinating old cities in Israel. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Rich in history, spanning from the Greek periods, this ancient city has fascinating points of interest as well as a charming location along the Sea. Acre is well known as one of the main Crusaders cities.

It is recently in the news due to the heavy bombardment of the area from Lebanon. Many houses, especially in the nearby new city, are being hit by the rockets and missiles from the North. Many were killed and wounded.
